Sony a7 II
Hi, my name is Hannes and I’m a 25 years old self-taught photographer from
I bought my first camera at the age of 18 for fun – a used Canon EOS 60D with a Canon 50/1.8 and a Canon 24/2.8. Bang on budget. I shot like everything that came across my lens. And looking back on these pictures: they are horrible.
With time and my driving license came the passion for cars. I started driving to my family by a rental car. Once I started telling my mother I’d go out and shoot the sunset – with the car. Actually she was incomprehensible about that. I did it anyway. And it started to spread the seed.
Today I can happily look back on my journey through automotive photography. I shot many well-known tuned cars such as the Pipifein 997, the Harley Quinn TTRS, the DTM-styled RS6 and so on. I got featured on @audi_de and shot for multiple car dealerships. Currently I’m working in my full-time job as an Art Director for Porsche.
I’m using a kinda minimalist configuration: Sony a7 II, Sigma 35/1.4 and a Helios 44-4. I got a lightning setup (based on a video guide of Moe Zainal) but I’m honestly not using it at all. I like to search for perspectives hand-held even if that means I need to bump up the ISO. I don’t want to capture the best quality possible, the most sharp picture or whatever. I want to capture the mood within the shot.
Once we shot the AMG GTR by @arcollector in Frankfurt in front of one the most expensive Hotels around. It was late night, there was no real traffic and basically we had our time to shoot. But then a bellhop came across and asked if we need any help with the car as some guests told that there is a car standing on the street. He thought it was broken. Couple of minutes later when all the shots were captured we left with screaming engines. 🙂
